About

Our story

For decades, farmers have relied on traditional soil sampling to guide their fertility decisions. But these methods have major limitations—sampling only a fraction of a field, requiring manual collection and delivering slow, expensive and often incomplete data.

The idea for Xact Agriculture started with a simple but powerful question from a farmer:

“If satellite imaging and AI can map mineral deposits for mining, could the same proven technology transform how farmers understand their soil?

The answer was YES. Initially developed for the mining and exploration sector, this advanced imaging and AI technology was adapted for agriculture—combining satellite-based multispectral data with physical soil samples to deliver a detailed snapshot of soil chemistry across entire fields.

Today, Xact’s AI-powered fertility tool delivers full-field, high-resolution soil chemistry data, giving growers the insights they need to make smarter, more sustainable decisions—at a fraction of the time and cost of traditional sampling.

The Evolution of Xact Agriculture

Precision with Purpose

Here’s how Xact Agriculture became the first to provide full-field soil fertility data, revolutionizing how growers view their soil.

Proven technology in action

DataPLP Ltd. specialized in seeing what others couldn’t. Using advanced satellite imaging and AI-powered analysis developed in-house, they delivered high-resolution geological insights in the mining and exploration sectors to accurately predict mineral deposits.

At the same time, farmers were stuck with outdated tools.

Despite soil being their most important resource, traditional soil sampling offered only limited data that was slow, costly, and labour-intensive to collect. And crucially, failed to capture the full picture of what was happening in their fields.

An idea takes root

The idea for Xact Agriculture came from a farmer’s simple but powerful question: “If satellite imaging can identify minerals for mining, why can’t it do the same for farming?”

Pieter Du Plessis, CEO of DataPLP, was intrigued. As a leader in satellite imaging and AI-driven analysis, Pieter set out to test whether the proprietary AI technology could reveal nutrient levels, soil moisture, and fertility trends for farms at scale.

Development began on what would become the Xact Fertility Tool, playing a key role.

DataPLP was acquired and Pieter Du Plessis joined the Axiom Group and broad marketing of the technology began. Most importantly, farmers and industry professionals were engaged from the start to guide development and ensure the final product was practical, accessible and actionable for real-world farming applications.

Xact Agriculture incorporates

During this phase, strategic partnerships played key role. Kvale joined to lead the intuitive dashboard design and Sasktel came on board to manage secure, scalable data hosting.

After rigorous testing and successful proof of concept, Xact Agriculture formally incorporated as Xact Agriculture and Forestry Ltd.

The result of years of work and innovation was the Xact Fertility Tool—a breakthrough in soil fertility management that digitizes the soil, providing full-field, high-resolution fertility maps without the need for grid sampling.
